WATCH: Leigh Griffiths Free Kicks for Scotland v England

What a moment for Scotland fans? But the joy wasn’t to last as England went on to equalize in the last moments at Hampden Park.

For two glorious minutes, Scotland took a 2-1 lead over England in their World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park. It was Celtic’s Leigh Griffiths who stepped up to take two free kicks within two minutes of each other to give Scotland the lead. Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade Chamberlain had given England a second half lead but Griffiths brought Gareth Southgate’s team back to earth with his two glorious strikes.

It wasn’t the end of the story though, in the 94th minute, Harry Kane, in his first game as England captain, scored to make it 2-2. Despite not getting the win, the manner of the performance will likely save Scotland coach Gordan Strachan’s job for the time being. It’s impossible not to feel sorry for Strachan and his team and more importantly, their supporters.

The Scottish Sun had predicted that Scotland would win 1-0 with Griffiths grabbing he goal on his 13th appearance. While former Celtic striker Chris Sutton had written in the Daily Mail prior to the game that teams in England had been wrong to overlook Griffiths. His free-kicks against England will certainly put clubs on alert as the transfer window spending free commences on July 1.
