The moment that James Hodgkinson opened fire and shot four people at a baseball diamond June 14 were captured in a chilling video.

Hodgkinson arrived at Eugene Simpson Baseball Stadium Park in Alexandria, Virginia in the morning while Republican congressmen were in the middle of a practice for a charity baseball game against the Democrats that’s scheduled for June 15.

Police and witnesses say that Hodgkinson appeared near the third base dugout and shot Rep. Steve Scalise, GOP staffer Zack Barth, lobbyist Matt Mika and Capitol Police officer David Bailey with a rifle.

The tense moments during the shootout were caught on video and posted to YouTube. In the dramatic video, which is just under six minutes long, a male walking a dog appears to be filming behind a fence outside of baseball diamond while laying on the ground. Shots ring out throughout the clip as people can be heard frantically screaming as the situation continues to unfold.

The male on the video is heard asking where he, Hodgkinson, is located. Another male voice answers to say “he’s behind home plate.” Suddenly, one person is seen laying motionless in the outfield, and the male asks if he’s OK.

“Is anybody talking to him?” the man asks before more screams are heard ordering people to “stay down.” An intense firefight continues between officers and Hodkinson before the gunfire ceases and the video comes to an end.

Scalise was rushed to a medical facility where he underwent surgery. After he was released from surgery, he was listed in critical condition. Two police officers were wounded and are in good condition. Hodgkinson died from his injuries at a medical facility.

Hodgkinson was 66-years old and from Illinois. He was a licensed home inspector who ran a business out of his home. He had a history of arrests throughout his life and in 2006 was arrested for assaulting a record, NBC News reported.
