Trump announces Pat Cipollone will be new White House counsel

Washington lawyer Pat Cipollone will replace Don McGahn as White House counsel, President Trump said Tuesday.

The announcement comes over a month after the president announced McGahn would be leaving the administration following the confirmation of US Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Cipollone is expected to step into his new role within two weeks, according to Politico.

A former Justice Department attorney who served under President George HW Bush, Cipollone is currently a partner at DC practice Stein Mitchell Cipollone & Missner.

On Saturday, prior to the official announcement, Trump called Cippolone “a great guy.”

“He’s very talented and he’s a very good man.”
