The latest Pokemon Go update has been released. This is the update that introduces a new gym system, and it also adds some of the infrastructure to support the upcoming Raid Battle feature. But right now, you may be receiving a message that says, “Raid battles are not yet available at your level.” So what’s up with this? Is there a minimum level for raids?
At this time, nobody can participate in raids, so it’s not just about what level you are. Niantic has never talked about this Raid Battle system as being something that is exclusive to those at certain levels, and so we should probably just disregard this message about raids not being available due to your level.
In fact, we have reason to believe that the message is not completely accurate. After all, in an official screenshot released by Niantic to preview the new gym system, a player who is a level 25 is seen participating in a raid. But players who are Level 25 are currently receiving the message that raids are not available at their level, even though we know that those who are level 25 will have access to the feature.
Niantic has stated that the Raid Battle feature won’t be out for all players for a few weeks. They plan to introduce it first as a beta, with the feature then gradually rolling out across the world. We don’t have an exact timeframe on this, but Niantic has said that we should expect the rollout to take a few weeks. It will likely be available at the latest by the Pokemon Go Fest Chicago event, which is scheduled to take place on July 22nd, 2017.
Meanwhile, Niantic has still not re-enabled the gyms, which are still listed as being under construction. But the company has said that the gyms will come back online as soon as everyone has the latest update, which is expected to happen in 24 to 48 hours.
