‘Overwatch’s’ Newest Map Delayed for Competitive Mode

Overwatch’s newest map is almost here and fans are gearing up to battle across every inch of this unique level. Called Horizon Lunar Colony, this new area is set in a research station located on Earth’s Moon. The home of Winston, this new area is a 2 Point Capture map like Hanamura and will feature a rather a new mechanic that hasn’t been seen in Overwatch yet. While Horizon Lunar Colony sports familiar crowded halls and tight chokepoints, Blizzard has decided to add a low gravity environment. This means if you’re outside then you can jump quite high which will certainly cause all sorts of chaos in a team fight.

Yet, one of the biggest concerns many players have is if Horizon Lunar Colony would instantly be put into the Competitive Mode rotation. Much of this stems from the fact that Blizzard released both Oasis and Eichenwald into the competitive season right from the start, which caused a rather noticeable problem across all ranks. Since map knowledge and understanding how to navigate the terrain is key, forcing users to learn on the fly made from a clumsy and frustrating environment. The last thing players wanted was to figure out how to push onto a specific objective while risking their seasonal rank doing it.

Thankfully, Blizzard has decided to address this issue and took to the forums earlier in order to assure players this would not happen again. Blizzard employee Bill Warnecke stated simply in a post:

Hey folks, Horizon Lunar Colony will be disabled in Competitive Play for the first week. Cheers!

This should give players enough time to at least learn the fundamentals of Horizon Lunar Colony and allow users to perform well on the map. If you are looking to pick up Horizon Lunar Colony, this map will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One sometime later today.
