Mexico are a real threat to knock off the European champions on Sunday. El Tri may not have a strong track record against teams like Portugal, but they’ve been unbeaten in CONCACAF qualifying with strong play at both ends.

Here are the latest odds from Bovada:

Mexico vs. Portugal Odds

Spread: Mexico +.5 (-115), Portugal -.5 (-105)

Moneyline: Mexico +300, Portugal -105, Draw +245

Total: Over 2.5 (+105), Under 2.5 (-125)

Prediction:

Mexico are the big dogs in North America, but they’re in a tough spot at Confederations Cup. Mexico can only advance by being one of the top two teams in Group A, but must compete with Portugal and host nation Russia. All things considered, Juan Carlos Osorio would be happy if Mexico were able to score a draw in Kazak.

It doesn’t matter how good you are when you face Ronaldo. He has more goals for Portugal (73) than anyone, and he leads a team filled with world-class veteran talent. Portugal shocked the hosts in Paris with a Euro victory, but now the fans will be dreaming bigger. Ronaldo isn’t getting any younger, and Moscow might be Portugal’s best chance at making history.

Mexico will see several players, including Andres Guardado, return to the starting lineup. Chicharito has been a scoring machine for El Tri, and he has the best odds for Mexico as +200 anytime scorer.

These teams have met twice in history, with Portugal winning both meetings. The most recent was a friendly in 2014, when Bruno Alves scored in extra time to give Portugal a 1-0 victory.

Mexico have been impressive in North America, but they’ve always struggled against South America. Portugal has a similar level of talent as teams like Brazil and Argentina, who are much better than Mexico. Still, I believe Osorio will have his team prepared and will be satisfied to open the tournament with a point.

Prediction: 1-1 Draw
Best Bet: Both teams to score (Yes)
