Reports streamed in April 18 that Stephens may have killed himself near an elementary school in Erie. That was confirmed by Pennsylvania State Police, who said that they stopped his vehicle on a traffic stop. After a short pursuit, Stephens shot and killed himself on Buffalo Road in Erie.
Stephens shot and killed 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr. on April 16 and published a video of the slaying to Facebook. He fled the scene and has been the subject of a nationwide manhunt ever since.
Agencies had combined to offer up to a $50,000 reward for information leading to Stephens’ arrest.
