All signs point to Kevin Durant missing Game 2 of the Warriors-Blazers playoff series. Durant was listed as questionable on yesterday’s injury report but multiple outlets report that Durant is closer to doubtful for tonight’s contest.
Here is what we know so far. ESPN’s Marc Stein reported the Warriors are strongly considering holding Durant out in Game 2 for precautionary reasons. Mercury News’ Anthony Slater reported Durant missed Golden State’s morning shootaround. USA Today’s Sam Amick reported Durant is doubtful to play in tonight’s game.
Durant is dealing with a calf injury. According to ESPN’s Chris Haynes, Durant cramped up during Game 1 on Sunday. The injury was not expected to linger but Durant missed Tuesday’s practice then was added to the injury report for today’s game.
Even if Durant misses Game 2, he would be expected to play in Game 3 in Portland on Saturday, April 22. It should be noted that reports on Sunday indicated the injury was not a concern, and Durant was expected to play in tonight’s game.
If Durant does miss Game 2, the injury appears to be more serious than it was originally thought. That said, it would be surprising if Durant misses more than one game.
Durant was sidelined for more than a month of the end of the regular season with a left knee injury. Durant returned to action on April 8 against the Pelicans. It has not been reported this injury is in any way related to his previous knee injury.
The calf injury did not seem to impact Durant’s performance in Game 1. Durant finished with 32 points and 11 rebounds against the Blazers in the opening contest.
