With less than one week remaining until Election Day in Georgia’s 6th congressional district, the campaign for the vacant House seat has taken an alarming turn.
Neighbors near Republican candidate Karen Handel’s home in Roswell, Georgia alerted authorities when a white powdery substance was found inside of envelopes and placed inside mailboxes June 15.
Police responded to the area and were seen going from mailbox to mailbox in the neighborhood to ensure safety and that the substance wasn’t harmful. It’s currently unclear what the white substance was.
Handel herself said that she was a recipient of a letter containing a white powdery substance.
Washington Free Beacon reporter Brent Scher obtained one of the letters that were reportedly found inside of the mailboxes. It included a printed letter that contained extremely vulgar language in reference to Handel.
“You neighbor Karen Handel is a dirty fascist c*** but I’m sure you already knew that,” the letter accompanying the envelope said. “Take a whiff of the powder and join her in the hospital.”

On June 20, voters in the district head to the polls to select who they want to represent them in the House after former Rep. Tom Price was confirmed as the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
But some doubted the credibility of the alarming development in Handel’s neighborhood. New York Post columnist John Podhoretz wasn’t having any of it. He surmised that the substance and letter that was found inside of the mailboxes was a “total fake” and done by Republicans to “discredit Ossoff.”
Ossoff, a first-time politician, has led in the polls ever since he and Handel emerged from the first round of voting April 18. But those polling figures have started to tighten in recent weeks, and it seems as if the runoff is a virtual toss up.
