The 2017 Travelers Championship wasn’t short on drama, to say the least. While Jordan Spieth took home the championship with one of the most epic finishes in recent history, it also placed him in some exceptionally elite company as well. As Golf.com pointed out, his victory over Daniel Berger in Sunday’s playoff makes him the second player ever to win 10 events before turning 24 years old.
The other player? None other than the infamous Tiger Woods, of course. While the stat is impressive, Spieth, unfortunately, won’t be able to catch Woods for most ever before 24. Woods had career wins before his 24th birthday, and Spieth is set to turn that age on July 27. While any comparison to one of the greatest golfers in history is probably unfair, when you see someone do what Spieth did Sunday, it’s hard to not at least envision him being able to dominate in some similar fashion eventually.
As if the shot wasn’t awesome enough, Spieth’s celebration just took the whole thing to another level. Fans probably shouldn’t be all that surprised, though, because when Spieth did nail the shot above, one of his good friends was all over predicting it. Justin Thomas took to Twitter, and although he missed the cut at the event, he obviously was watching the finish.
In the end, he actually went as far as predicting that Spieth was going to make the shot.
As you can imagine, Twitter basically lost its mind when Thomas wound up being right, with people heaping praise on his correct prediction.
You really don’t see that every day.
As for Spieth, this season alone, Spieth has really dominated at times. Through his 16 events played, he has 13 made cuts, 11 top-25 finishes, seven top-10 finishes, has finished third twice, second once and tallied two victories. While his victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am when he went 19-under may be tough to top, his victory over a surprisingly strong Travelers Championship field is worth raving about.
Could Spieth be in for an epic run to finish the season off? It wouldn’t be all that surprising.
