It’s once again time for the Boston Marathon.
2017 will mark the 121st running of the race, which sends over 30,000 runners and participants through 26.2 miles of famous Massachusetts scenery.
For many, this is a bucket list item. For others, such as last year’s winners Lemi Berhanu Hayle and Atsede Baysa, or the United States’ Olympic bronze medalist Galen Rupp, this is an serious competition with important implications. For everyone, it’s a historic Patriots’ Day tradition.
Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s race and viewing info:
2017 Boston Marathon Route
The famed route remains the same as previous years, starting in Hopkinton and ending on Boylston Street, with all the famous spots and scenes–Wellesley Scream Tunnnel, Heartbreak Hill, etc.–in between.
While the route is unchanged, security will be a little different, as city officials will place parked dump trucks and other equipment along side streets near the finish line.
“We’re really locking down this route,” said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans.
