Atlanta Church Bus Crash: Photos & Videos From the Scene

A charter bus carrying high-school aged students crashed and killed at least one person while injuring over 30 in Atlanta on June 8.

Police said that there were 38 people on the bus, and four of those injured are listed in critical condition and recovering at area hospitals.

Authorities responded to the scary incident during rush hour traffic in the Atlanta area along Cam Creek Parkway at Merk Road in Fulton County. The crash took place nearby Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Fox 5 Atlanta reported, and it took place just before 4 p.m. EDT.

According to reports, the one fatality in the crash is a church member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. The bus was carrying church members that were 11th and 12th grade students and adult chaperones on their way to the airport for a mission trip to Africa, Mount Zion Minister of Education Terry Slay told NBC 11 Atlanta.

“We know there was a wreck, some injuries, some critical,” he said to the news station. “That’s all we know right now.”

The church posted a message to its Facebook page urging people to pray for people on board the bus.

PRAY! One of the buses with the student ministry mission had an accident on the way to the Atlanta airport. Several serious injuries. Please pray for those injured and parents as they travel to Atlanta.

Those on board were headed to Africa for a mission trip, members from the church said to local outlets.

Images from the scene show what appears to be the bus carrying the students resting on top of another vehicle. Authorities responded to the scene in large numbers and were seen helping students from the bus and to safety.
