Taking her place among the big names who spoke during Monday night’s opening of the 2016 Democratic National Convention, First Lady Michelle Obama brought the house down and the crowd to their feet with an impassioned speech in support of Hillary Clinton.
For her televised address to the Democratic delegation, Obama took to the stage in a knee-length royal blue Christian Siriano dress with cap sleeves and a natural waist. Beauty-wise, FLOTUS kept things characteristically simple. She opted for little more than a peachy pout and styled her perky lob in fuss-free waves and a subtle side-part. Below the lectern, a pair of metallic silver pumps provided her look with just the right amount of pizzazz.
As she shared personal anecdotes about raising her daughters Sasha and Malia in the White House, the First Lady was nearly overcome with emotion a few times during her speech. Addressing how she and President Barack Obama approach criticism and hate, Michelle delivered one of the night’s most memorable lines. “We don’t stoop to their level,” she told the crowd to thunderous cheers. “Our motto is, when they go low, we go high!” she cried.
FLOTUS went on to discuss the things that make America great—like the people who lined up in Orlando to donate blood and the people of Dallas who are determined to keep their city safe.
“So, look, so don’t let anyone ever tell you that this country isn’t great, that somehow we need to make it great again,” she roared. “Because this right now is the greatest country on earth!”
The president took to Twitter to publicly share his reaction to the First Lady’s moment on the stage.
“Incredible speech by an incredible woman. Couldn’t be more proud & our country has been blessed to have her as FLOTUS. I love you, Michelle,” he wrote.
