Chrissy Teigen’s skin was radiant even before her pregnancy, so when our own complexions began to look a bit drab post-holidays, we reached out to the star’s makeup artist, Mary Phillips. While Teigen might be able to attribute her skin to enviable genes, Phillips shared a few ways for the less blessed among us to fake that famous glow.
For a subtle approach, Phillips like to dab a blush brush with a bit of moisturizer (she splurges on Crème de la Mer, $170; cremedelamer.com) and applies it to the tops of cheekbones after makeup has set. “It’s my highlighting hack; I lightly buff a brush over the high points of face; it’s one of my ultimate glow tips,” says the pro.
For more intensity, reach for a highlighter. If you have fair skin, look for champagne or pearl tones—Phillips likes Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone ($38; sephora.com). If you have medium to dark skin, look for golden or peach tones. Phillips suggests Nars Illuminator in Hot Sand ($30; narscosmetics.com).

And remember what pops on Instagram might be too much for real life, such as that big presentation at work. “Highlighting isn’t about wearing a look, it’s about fooling people into thinking that this glow is really coming from you, like you’re hydrated and take that good of care of your skin,” says Phillips. For this reason, “avoid highlighters that looks too white or icy.”
