Chris Pine has an effortless swagger and sense of style, especially when he suits up for the red carpet. Yes, he gets down and dirty when it’s time to work long hours on the set of the latest Star Trek installment, but has the 36-year-old actor always known how to put on such a handsome face for the cameras?
We caught up with Pine, the face of the Giorgio Armani Code collection, in Beverly Hills on Tuesday inside the Giorgio Armani boutique on Rodeo Drive, where he looked nothing but sharp as he opened up about one of the earliest memories he associates with scent. “It’s dirt and grass, and leather, playing baseball with my father,” he said. “That’s essentially everything in my life, as far as I can remember, from when I was five until I was 18. The pine pitch on the pitcher’s mound and chalk, and it’s very, very earthy for me. So, cut wood, and fires, spending summers with my father in Montana, fishing. Cold water, streams and boulders.”
While Pine said his natural fragrance appeal is “something a bit darker,” it’s all about clean lines and simplistic sophistication when it comes to his personal style. “I’m a very visual person,” he said, dressed in a black fitted collared shirt with gray trousers and textured Armani loafers. “Things that evoke calm, cool make me feel a certain way. They make me feel calm.”
Pine has been the face of Giorgio Armani’s Code collection since 2014, and dished to us about what appeals to him about the latest cologne in the collection, Profumo. “You can smell Profumo right off the bat,” he told us. “It’s got these deep base notes of wood and patchouli and spice, and vanilla. It feels like a fall scent, woody fires and wine and good food. There are deep base notes, wood and leather, and patchouli.”
